Maria Abdelazim (they/them) is interested in exploring the boundaries we construct between ourselves and nature. They especially enjoy working with biomaterials such as bioplastics and mycelium to create usable art-objects, such as clothing and jewelry. Something Maria is always curious about exploring further is materiality, from designing ads to function as mirrors to a biofabricated dress-as-diary. No matter the medium or intent of the project, they are dedicated to maintaining sustainable creation practices and curating an interesting and reflective experience for their viewers.
Maria currently attends NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Studies, where they major in “The Materiality of Nature.”
